There is clearly no doubt that the first thing to do after launching your new phone is to set it up to be ready for use.

Setting up a new phone is quite easy but not always so easy and it will only take you some few minutes to complete the process.

In this article, I will be talking about how you can set up a new Android and iOS(Apple) devices.

Before setting up a new phone, there are some consideration to take note of such as the SIM card to use, how to safeguard the device, etc but all the same setting up an Android phone is pretty straight forward.

You should always bear it in mind that Android phones slightly differs from each other base on their manufacturer which may make their set up a little different.

Now, let’s take it step by step on some procedures you need to carry out while setting up your new Android phone.

1. Insert your SIM card

Just before you switch on your new phone, it is necessary for you to insert your desired SIM card in it’s SIM port which would be somewhere around the device. The SIM card may or may not be a new as it could also be the one that you previously used with your old phone, using your old SIM card would make things a lot easier for you because you will get to retain all you have saved in the SIM.

2. Configuration Of Date, Time And Language:

Just after you must have charged your new phone battery and switched on your phone, you will be required to select a language and also set your date and time so as to enable your device function effectively.

3.  Sign up /Login your Google account

Before now it is expected that you already have an Gmail address and also a Google account in your previous phone but if you don’t have, then you need to sign up as most apps and other functions of the new phone might require that you have to use your Google account. Remember, using your old Google account would enable you to transfer and backup some data and files from the old phone to the new phone.

4.  Set up a security option

Normally, the old version of Android has the traditional methods of securing your device such as using password, pins and patterns etc. but nowadays they are new phone security options such as fingerprints and facial recognition. This clearly shows that they are a lot security options to choose from depending on which you think is suitable for you.

5. Downloading Of APPs

When you are through with the initial set up process, you can now easily start downloading the necessary apps that you will be in need of, from the Google Play Store which is the App Store of Android devices.

Aside from these general processes, they might be other things to set up depending on the type of phone brand that you have got.

How to transfer data to a new Android phone

Already having a Google account makes transferring data from your old Android phone to your new one a lot more easier than you expected.

For you to still have all your old data intact and to enable you transfer and migrate all of them to your new device you have to back them up to your Google account (Google drive precisely).

For now, here is a simple step by step procedure to guide you through the transfer;

1. Open your device settings from either the app drawer or home screen.

2. Scroll down to search through the list

3. Tap on Backup and reset

4. Ensure that the toggle for Back up to Google Drive is set on.

5. Tap on Back Up Now to sync the latest data on the phone with Google Drive

Although, this varies from one Android phone brand to the other as this step is not specific.

And again, if you want to transfer your old pictures and videos, you have to first of all back them up to your Google photos and still retrieve them on your new Android phone once you login into your Google account.

How to transfer messages to a new phone

For now, I don’t think that it is possible for one to backup their SMS/MSM messages but it is possible for you to do that through the aid of some third-party apps that allows you to do so e.g  —SMS Backup+ and SMS Backup & Restore. Also, you can transfer your old messages from your old Android phone to your new phone that’s if you are using a third-party app like Gmail,WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram etc. With these third-party Apps, you would have the options of backing up all your chats and messages if you wish to, this will make it so easy for you to still retrieve them in your new phone.

How to transfer apps to a new phone

Transferring your apps from your old phone to your new phone can be tricky and quite difficult at times especially if the app in question doesn’t exist again in Google Play Store. The good news is that with Android devices, you can easily find and save these application files and transfer them to your new phone for manual installation.

First of all, you need to know that the file that contains the app you download from your play store is called APK and this is what you need to find, save and share in order to be enable to transfer these apps from one phone to the other.

From your old phone, you need to do the following;

1. You  need to  download APK Extractor Pro from the Play Store which is free to use.

2. Open the app, accept its terms, and grant it permission to access files on your device.

3. Search and find the app you want to save and tap the three-dot menu icon beside it.

4. Select “Share,” then select a destination you’ll be able to access on your other phone — like Google Drive or an email to yourself.

Then, on your new phone, this is what you have to do to make sure that the app is being transferred to your new phone ;

1. Locate the file you shared by opening Drive, your email, or wherever you saved it. The app will be  saved with the app’s name which will end with .apk

2. Tap the file to open it. At this point, you will be probably be warned by your phone that you are not allowed to install unknown apps.

3. This can be quite tricky here, if you use Android version 8 and above. You will have to tap on Setting and you will be taken to a screen where  you will be asked to authorize that specific app (Drive, Gmail)  to install the unknown apps. On older versions of Android, when you tap “Settings” you will be taken to a screen where you will give permission to allow unknown apps to be installed on a system-wide level

4. Hit the Back button and then follow the prompts to install the new app.

5. When the app is installed, it’ll appear in your app drawer and your phone will show you a prompt that offers to open the app immediately.
