President Jonathan’s Posters Destroyed By Thugs In Imo

President Jonathan is scheduled to visit Owerri this weekend to receive scores of Imo politicians who are dumping their respective political parties for the PDP.

Palpable shock and disbelief gripped loyalists of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and air travelers as suspected political thugs tore posters and pictures of President Goodluck Jonathan mounted at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

People were equally shocked as the rampaging political thugs descended and destroyed all the decorations on the perimeter fence of the airport, as well as the Presidential Lounge.

These strange events came as Imo people anxiously await the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan for the first time since Chief Ikedi Ohakim vacated office as Governor of the state.

The shocking part is that the destroyed posters, pictures and decorations were scattered in parts of the airport premises.

It was also gathered that the rampaging hired hoodlums however scampered into safety before stern looking security personnel arrived the scene.

Some workers and travelers, who were found discussing the ugly event in groups, blamed the act of the political thugs on an alleged directive from an unnamed top government official.

Meanwhile, the state government says it has approved the use of Dan Anyiam Stadium Complex, Owerri, which the PDP leadership applied for.

The Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, however stated in a release that Governor Rochas Okorocha was yet to be properly informed about the President’s visit to the state.

It was the considered opinion of the SSA that as the chief security officer of the state, it was proper that the Governor should be informed of the visit of the President.

BREAKING: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Resigns As Finance Minister

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinator of the Economy, tendered her letter of resignation to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, following the controversy surrounding funds accrued from the sale of crude oil, two privileged sources familiar with the development have told THEWILL.

Her resignation was however not accepted by President Jonathan, who assured her that heated matter would be resolved soonest.

Okonjo-Iweala in her letter had expressed frustration with the lack of accountability in the petroleum sector where billions of dollars are currently being reconciled. She also expressed fears that her reputation was being rubbished by the scandal.

Though Okonjo-Iweala Thursday addressed a press conference to reassure investors that the nation’s fiscal policy would not be affected by the suspension of CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi, one source told THEWILL that the Minister is irked by the sudden suspension of the controversial banker, who recently disclosed that $20 billion belonging to the federation has not been remitted by the NNPC.

Our sources insist that the Minister will exit the Jonathan government soonest.

THEWILL tried unsuccessfully Wednesday and today to get the Minister’s comment for this report. Her aide, Paul Nwabuikwu did not respond as well.

We didn’t go begging for alms, everyone transported themselves”-Segun Arinze defends Nollywood’s visit to Aso Rock

The recent visit to Aso Rock by Nollywood stars raised alot of eyebrows considering the surmounting insecurity issues in the country.Film maker Kabat Esosa was one of the first to lash out saying

‘One question I think begs an answer from them is; what was the reason and value of the Presidential visit? How have their visit added anything to the hue and cry in the country in respect of security, unemployment etc.‘

Segun Arinze who was there replied him

I think it’s so unfair for anyone to criticise AGN for paying a courtesy visit to President Goodluck Jonathan. We are an Association in Nollywood and our visit was to discuss issues as it affects our Guild and the industry in general.  Everybody transported themselves to and fro.
We didn’t go begging for alms. Pls do read Madam President Ibinabo Fiberisma’s  speech which has been sent by mail to you. Kabat’s statement was totally uncalled for. We are very apolitical.  We have a right to visit GEJ after all he’s the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria,’  Segun began.
Chyke Bryan who is the president of screen writers guild is down with kidney problem. What have the members of that guild of whom Kabat is also a member done to raise money for his treatment?  They should stop poking their noses in other people’s business.  And focus on how to move the industry forward instead of bickering and sulking like Children. Making a mountain out of a molehill.’

Segun with the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria Reuben Abati (middle)
