Osinbajo gives Security chiefs marching orders over Taraba killings

Sequel to the recent violence that broke out in some communities in Taraba State, which led to the death of several people, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday summoned security chiefs and ordered them to deploy more troops to the troubled areas.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, said the Acting President told the security chiefs to deploy an extra military battalion, police reinforcements and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to the affected communities.

Osinbajo is said to have also held a meeting with Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku over the matter and has assured the government and people of the state that those behind the recent violence will never go scot free.

The statement by Akande read in part, “The Acting President has ordered the provision of relief materials to be delivered to the affected communities in Toffi, Mayo Daga, Mayo Sina, Tamiya, Kwara-Kwara, Tungan Lugere, Timjire, Nguroje and other villages in the hinterlands of Mambilla Plateau.

“The Federal Government has also put in motion long time solutions, including mediation between opposing groups in the communal conflict.”
